Normal bowel wall(or wall thickness) [1]


Esophagus

  • length: 23 to 25 cm in the average adult.
  • The wall of the distended esophagus is 3 mm in thickness

stomach

  • a wall thickness of up to 5 mm is considered normal.
  • The normal thickness of the muscle of the adult pyloric canal ranges from 3 to 8 mm with an average of 4 mm.
    • In adult IHPS, it is increased to 1–1.5 cm on average, and measurements of up to 3 cm have been recorded.[2]

Gallbladder

  • normally 3 mm or less

Small bowel

  • The normal small bowel wall measures between 1 and 2 mm when the lumen is well distended with a positive, neutral, or air contrast medium.
  • When collapsed, the normal mural thickness of the small bowel measures between 2 and 3 mm.

  • >5 mm when nondistended
